Today, I feel rich because I learned of something new, which has, however, been occupying me for a while.

Michelangelo Pistoletto (born in 1933) has created his Quadri specchianti (MIRROR PAINTINGS), which involve the photographic transfer of an image on a mirror-polished, stainless-steel plate since 1962. These works, which include the viewer, the surrounding environment, and the dimension of time within the space of the mirror’s surface, brought him international renown in the early 1960s. The Mirror paintings transform the pictorial surface into a passage:
“trans” (through) “form” (the painting)
This notion of mirror as a possibility for transformation where an infinite amount of life and space can enter, was itself transformed into Sfera di giornali, a ball of newspapers rolled through the city by a group of people, providing a sense of collective empowerment and celebration of contemporary life together, and eventually became the caged sphere Mappamondo on exhibit here.
The rags of the iconic installation Venere degli stracci embody an embryonic ecological outlook of recycling as well as the vibrant and ever-changing multitude of society.
