‘She moulds all different elements, including empty spaces and unseen potential into one final authentic expression’.

About the artist

Her often large-scale, site-specific installations seamlessly merge with their surroundings while asserting their presence through sheer size, actively intervening in and enhancing the space.

Late 2024 marked the beginning of my journey with Late 2024 marked the beginning of my journey with @lamottewine when I was invited to exhibit in the first-ever show at their renovated gallery, previously home to the #pierneef collection and now showcasing contemporary artists. The monumental rose has become a permanent fixture in La Motte's foyer, and the giant suspended pink rose, alongside my artworks created the past five years were exhibited from Nov 2025 - Feb 2026, with many finding new homes locally and internationally. I appreciate the La Motte family, curators, and team for believing in me. @elzette_debeer @andinorton72 @_nina_kruger_ @ruzyrusike

I did “listen” to sounds during the fair. I heard a lot of voices, chatter and an underlying energetic buzz throughout the halls. Strangely enough the technology - ie. the audio’s in the “listen”booth were not charged and completely silent. #interesting #artistworld #artfair #artgallery @investeccapetownartfair

A show stemming from her 2025 residency at @citede A show stemming from her 2025 residency at @citedesartsparis Heike turns her gaze toward Paris and its people, observing identity, presence and the space between self and other. Amid the city’s stark contrasts—luxury beside hardship—her works become meditations in charcoal of place and society.

In this series, women including herself and Manet’s ‘Berthe Morisot’, appear with Dali-esque moustaches,
—small, unsettling gestures that disturb the familiar codes of beauty and authority. The moustache, long a symbol of masculine power and artistic genius, becomes a quiet philosophical device: a question drawn across the face. What changes when a woman bears the signs history has reserved for men? Would she be granted authorship, seriousness, permanence—or simply become another spectacle?

Celebrated or discarded as muses, models, and assistants—from Degas’s young dancer to Camille Claudel in Rodin’s shadow—women were central to art, yet seldom allowed the stage during that time.

Heike’s artwork “Degas Dancer” continues this reflection. Painted on a discarded poster from a Parisian fashion house, the figure recalls the young ballet student who unsettled 19th-century critics with her unidealized presence. On a material cast aside, her akward figure evokes thoughts on a culture that elevates, consumes, and ultimately discards.

PS - these are reflections and gratitude for equality @drjeske_surgeon - the most fair and humble friend, best teacher and man in my life.
