The gouging into linoleum has a sculptural element to it; the reduction; the grooves; carving away onto a flat surface to give delineated dimension and contrast to an image. I enjoy the challenge and grandeur of making large art works and the impact that a strong black and white image portrays. I am often influenced by flora and forces of nature and thus called it ‘Moya’, which means wind; air; spirit or breath in Setswana. I love the way the letters of the word curl; symbolic of the image.
Material:
‘Moya’ – Lino print edition of 8, 1070 x780mm Hahnemühle 300g
‘Blown Away’ – Lino print edition of 7, 500x360mm, Fabriano 290g
I feel the movement;
wind; unseen but present
Blown away; let go; free;
a turbulent embrace
Carve. Let flow. I don’t know.
It just comes
